In her role as a consultant, Dawn has developed and coordinates the Growing Through Grief Program for Mount Royal Commemorative Services. The following programs are offered free-of-charge to the community.
Grief Support
General Grief Support Groups
• for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one • offered Wednesday afternoons or Wednesday evenings -
beginning Oct. 10, 2007
• 8 weekly sessions beginning offered in the fall, winter & spring
Sibling Grief Support Group
• for young adults who have experienced the death of a sibling
• offered monthly on Tuesday evenings 7-9 p.m.
Parent Grief Support Group
• for parents who have experienced reproductive loss through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, medical termination, stillbirth, newborn death
• offered once a month (variable day) 7-9 p.m.
Good Grief Workshop for Children and Teens
• for children and teens 4-15 years old who have experienced the death of someone close to them
• Parent Discussion Group is offered to parents/guardians at the same time to help them understand children and teen grief
• one-day workshop offered bi-annually in April and November
• next workshop: Sat. Nov. 17, 2007, 9:30 a.m. 2 p.m.
Commemorative Services
Sun. Oct 21, 2007 “Forever a Baby Memory Service” 2 p.m.
• at Mount Royal Cemetery
• for parents, families, friends and children
• a non-religious, bilingual memorial service and symbolic burial to honor the memories of babies who died through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, medical termination, stillbirth, and newborn death
Thurs. Dec. 6, 2007 “Hope for the Holidays” 7 p.m.
• a special evening for sharing ideas for coping with the holidays, live music, candlelighting, Memory Tree
• individuals, families and children are welcome
• at Mount Royal Funeral Complex
May 8th, 2008 “Memories”
• a special evening for sharing ideas for coping with anniversary dates after a special person has died, live music, candle walk, and the planting of a Memory Rose to honor the memories of loved ones
• individuals, families and children are welcome
• at Mount Royal Funeral Complex
Community Outreach
Classroom visits
Dawn will visit classrooms and collaborate with teachers to help them integrate death education into the curriculum using seasonal themes and age-appropriate books.
Field trips
Dawn can arrange educational tours of Mount Royal Funeral Complex, Crematorium and Cemetery for elementary, high school, college and university students.
